Good news!
When Jesus Christ began his ministry on earth he announced it as "good news."
This is what we call the "gospel." It is good news because all
relationships (i.e., those between people and those between people and God)
and every aspect of creation that was corrupted by sin can now be redeemed.
This good news is experienced on a deeply personal level and through the corporate life of humanity.
The chart below shows the breadth of this good news.

On the Personal Side The gospel is about... |
On the Corporate Side The gospel is about... |
|
Personal salvation -
paying the penalty for our sin, Jesus Christ opened
up a way for us to have peace with God. We find peace with God through
accepting Jesus' substitutionary sacrifice for our sin and by this enter
into the life of the gospel.
John 3.16
|
Community restoration -
breaking down barriers and helping people to
really love one another.
Galatians 3.28
|
|
Doctrine -
finding/knowing the truth contained in God's Word. The greatest
revelation of God is found in the person and words of Jesus and the
symbolic actions he has commanded us to repeat (i.e., baptism and
communion).
John 8.31-32
|
Spiritual Practice -
entering into spiritual disciplines that open the way and make people
fertile soil for the indwelling of God. These allow people to accept the
mystery of God, that which is beyond their understanding.
1 Corinthians 11.26
|
|
Evangelism -
sharing this good news with others and inviting them to becoming
followers of Jesus, knowing all the benefits of the gospel and seeking
to live as Jesus would live.
Matthew 28.18-20
|
Social transformation and justice -
sharing an alternative vision of social interaction that is based on
justice, love, and compassion. This means embracing systems that reflect
who God is and rejecting or changing systems that contradict God's
character or will.
Luke 4.14-21
|
|
Eternal hope and restoration -
embracing an eternity where all things are made right and the righteous
are vindicated.
2 Peter 3.13
|
Redemption of Creation -
Now! Seeking to delight in and care for the earth God made, which was
created good but marred by sin.
Ephesians 1.9-10

The good news of Jesus Christ touches on all that it is to be human and to live in this world. It touches every aspect of our lives.
Those who would be followers of Jesus are asked to embrace this vision for humanity and for all creation.
