I came across a series of devotionals celebrating the glory of God and over the next few weeks, I would like to share these with you.

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:1-3 ESV

We celebrate the glory of God by recognizing it in His Son, Jesus.

These three verses from Hebrews point us toward some incredible truths about God. For starters, God used to speak through prophets—like Moses.  But God also speaks through His Son.

Jesus is the heir of all things. He is the rightful owner of everything. Which makes sense because this particular verse also tells us that God the Father created the entire world through Jesus (God the Son). If that wasn’t enough glory for us to wrap our heads around, we also learn that He (Jesus) is the radiance of the glory of God and upholds the entire universe by the “word of his power”.

Do you know how big and vast the universe is? There are an estimated 200 billion galaxies that exist. Astronomers are confident that the amount of stars that exist in the universe would surpass the amount of grains of sand that cover our earth. The point of all of this is that Jesus created and controls everything.  And He sustains it second by second by the word of His power across the entire universe.

Because He has the capacity to handle everything (He is God, remember), He also has more than enough capacity to care for you. Hebrews 1:3 says that He provided purification for sins. That means He lived the perfect life and died as a sacrifice to pay the penalty of death that our sins deserve. And He did it for you.

Friend, Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God. He sustains the entire universe by the word of His power. And He also made a way for you to be in right standing with His Father.

Consider this prayer as a response to His glory today:

“Father, You are aware of everything that exists right now. Beyond that, You are actively sustaining all of it. And You still care for me. Thank You that I have evidence of this love by what You did on my behalf on the cross over 2,000 years ago. Forgive me for being in awe of lesser things and lesser people than You. Would You captivate my imagination today as I try to focus on Your glory? Would You cause me to remember who You are, what You’ve done, and what You’re actively doing to sustain Your creation every millisecond of the day? I’m looking for Your glory today. Help me to see it. Amen.”
